Health Disparity
The Problem
Different communities in the United States receive different amounts and levels of health services. This creates a crisis in the areas that do not have as much access to these services which greatly affects that population. In most cases impoverished, highly concentrated areas, and rural areas are usually the places that have the least amount of services available due to lack of resources or overpopulation. The lack of adequate resources given to these communities results in major problems in both mental health care as well as physical health care leading to deficiencies in both. This problem leads to health disparity in various areas around the United States lowering the standard of care and quality of life of a vast number of people.
Communities Most Affected
Communities with high numbers of African Americans and Hispanics often time lack mental health education and the services necessary to both inform as well as serve these communities leading to a disparity in access to care. STATS ON MINORITY/POORER COMMUNITIES AND MENTAL HEALTH
